Vintage MGM Civil War Costume Dress Gown The Pirate Worn by Lola Albright
Vintage MGM Civil War Costume Dress Gown “The Pirate” Worn by Lola Albright. Original costume worn by Lola Albright, who sometimes used the stage name, LOLA DEEM. She played Isabella in the 1948 Warner Brothers Musical,’The Pirate, staring Gene Kelly & Judy Garland. Songs by Cole Porter, Directed by Vincent Minnelli. It earned one OSCAR nomination. Completely hand-sewn of silk, taffeta velvet, lace and more. Very sturdy and in good shape (considering it’s age) though silk voile around the neck. And over the puffy sleeves shows damage, requires some repair/sewing, and could use some TLC. The bodice is 100% silk, with fine handmade lace, gold braiding, and silk brocade ribbons. The skirt has five (5) layers of petticoats. The dress is completely lined. The inside’written’ lable says, “Lola Dean #2″ but was meant to say Lola Deem. Costumers were often dealing with so much inventory that they mislabeled things. No labels that have a studio name, which by the way, was/is not uncommon. So many of these costumes are reworked, reinvented, restructured, re-sized and shared. Rarely with any concern over putting the studio label on the pieces. This dress would work beautifully for a wedding, or any number of occasions. As memorabilia of Hollywood, it proclaims the Golden Era of Musicals. As a historical recreation. Its era is fluid 19th century and would suit a wide range of re enactments. From the American frontier to the Civil War. THIS DRESS IS SMALL. Size: XS or XXS. Measured laying down flat and across. Length (from waist): 34. Please contact me if youd like to see more photos, and for more details. Lola Albright: In the 1940s this blue eyed, blond haired beauty appeared in more than 40 films. By the 1960s shed also appeared in many TV shows. And was an Elvis girl. Her sultry, smoky voice earned her a leading role in the Blake Edwards TV series, Peter Gunn, playing a club owner. And girlfriend of Craig Stevens (who stared as Peter Gunn). She was Emmy nominated for her work in that show. (composer of the classic Peter Gunn theme) was so impressed with Lolas musical talent that he got her TWO record album deals. Lola was considered by many to be one of the most unappreciated actresses of her time. With a better break, she might have been an iconic film star. Lola died April 25, 2002 at age 92.
