Original Authentic Civil War Confederate Officer Frock Coat. Baldwin Pannill was a private in the 6th Virginia Cavalry, Orange County Rangers. The coat came to our Museum from Mildred Pannill, Baldwin’s grand-daughter. The Museum will issue an affidavit of authenticity and genealogical history with the coat. The sword was bought and examined for authenticity and is now in a fine private collection. The coat is all period material, heavy canvas, trimmed with a decorative fray that looks more like Buffalo Bill than Confederate, except that it all appears original, and, historically, is not inconsistent with western theater style modifications to a soldier’s uniform. Beautiful lead, nickel buttons, very original Confederate. The condition of the coat is like very few we have ever seen. We did, today, receive an opinion from a Civil War expert who opines that the coat is an old, post war costume piece…. There are a variety of opinions on the coat, price makes it well worth finding out. Use your best instincts.
