Authentic Civil War style size 6 girl’s basic dress. Chest 24″ waist 22″. This is a simple dress, meant to be worn by girls from the age of 5 or 6 up until they graduate to adult clothing. It is meant to be worn as daily wear, although it can be dressed up with a ribbon, fancy apron, Medici belt etc. To be dressed up for church or party wear. The dress is made of bright red 100% cotton in a woven pattern of small black flowers. It buttons down the back with swirled knot shaped buttons. The buttons have the look of antique buttons but I prefer to use more washable plastic buttons for the smaller sizes since they tend to need more frequent washing. The jewel neckline and arms eyes are edged with narrow period correct self-fabric piping. The long bishop style sleeves have button cuffs. The dress has a narrow 1 hem. The hemline is straight so the length of the skirt can easily be shortened with a deeper hem or with growth tucks. The gathered skirt is 128, wide enough for a girl’s hoop skirt or corded petticoat.
